The ocean makes up 71% of the earths surface and covers 360 million square kilometers of the earth. Most of the ocean hasn't been explored, only 10% of the ocean has been explored. The ocean is extremely diverse and different compared to land ecosystems and creatures. For every 10 meters is a different atmosphere. At 1 kilometer the atmosphere is 100 times what we experience but in the deepest trenches in the ocean the atmosphere is 1,100 times what we experience. These conditions are the reason why the deep ocean remains unexplored and is often out of discussion for protection. Since the biodiversity is out of sight and out of mind the problems that arise are often not payed attention to. Most fisheries are being operated at or beyond sustainable levels. There is a lot more to the ocean then we know and it is important to know about the biodiversity and ecosystems therefore we don't disturb the ocean as we are doing now.
After reading this article I learned how diverse the ocean is and how different it is from land. Earth should be called Oceanus since its surface is 71% water or has 360 million square kilometer of water on the surface. We don't know anything about the ocean especially about the deep sea since the conditions at these depths are not survivable. We only have explored 10% of the ocean but only 1% of the ocean floor has been studied. The deep ocean is rarely depleted of oxygen since dissolved oxygen sinks to these depths and often stays in the deep oceans for hundreds of years although towards the surface there are areas where there is little to no oxygen. Ocean communities only make up 1% of the ocean floor and it is important to know more about the ocean
